A Young Lady Triumphs Over Her Depression, Gets Alcohol Therapy For Her Excessive And Heavy Drinking, And Augments Her Self Image

Emily was a forty-nine-year-old bookkeeper who was tired of feeling depressed everyday of her life and sick of her careless and hazardous drinking behavior. In a word, she was sick of feeling lackluster every morning, she hated the hangovers she went through on a regular basis, she was tired of going through failed relationship after failed relationship due to her excessive drinking, she was angry with herself for spending her hard-earned money on a valueless habit, and she missed her old motivation for doing various things she enjoyed.

Above and beyond the visible alcohol-related health issues she now experienced, in all probability the unhealthiest part of her drinking behavior was the undependable and deceitful person she had turned into. In her heart of hearts she knew that she had been less than truthful about her drinking activities with relatives, friends, and family and she also knew she had been untruthful with herself about the "healthy" effects of drinking. Not only this but she made excuses for guzzling three or four drinks before going to social events and she also justified needing several drinks the very first thing in the morning so that she could deal with the "tension" at work. Simply put, Emily got to a critical time in her life during which she saw that she hit rock bottom and was now prepared to commence the gradual road that leads to recovery.

One of basic ways that Emily put her "plan" into action was by requesting a transfer at work. When her request was approved, she moved 700 miles away to a different part of the United States. If nothing else, this beyond question made making new buddies and disconnecting herself from her old pals easier. Then she visited with a physician in her new location and made an appointment for a thorough psychological and physical exam.

After meeting with the healthcare professional and going through numerous lab tests, it was determined that Emily had made the regrettable transition from alcohol abuse to alcohol addiction and, as a result, was in need of alcohol rehabilitation and alcohol detoxification. At this stressful time, the healthcare professional made it a point to discuss the various alcoholic symptoms and the familiar symptoms of alcoholism. In addition to focusing a lot of attention on Emily's alcoholism symptoms, the doctor also told Emily that her mental health assessment revealed that she was clinically depressed and in need of therapy for this medical situation.

Due to her readiness to follow through with the treatment regimen, after five weeks of inpatient rehab, Emily was ready to initiate counseling on an outpatient basis. At this time, she began working at her new job and over the weeks began fortifying her body by living an alcohol-free lifestyle, drinking spring water, eating nutritious foods, exercising, and taking vitamins.

After about eleven weeks of outpatient therapy during which time she never suffered through a relapse, Emily stopped going to alcohol counseling and instead started going three times every week to local Alcoholics Anonymous meetings. Going to these meetings helped Emily follow through with her alcohol-free way of life, they gave her the support she required, and they served as a persistent reminder of the adverse consequences that are correlated with excessive and abusive drinking. Compared with her life just a few short months ago, life was now rewarding and full of promise that she could have never wished for or made real while she was involved in careless drinking behavior.
