A Night Out With Pals From School At A Local Pub Results In Irresponsible And Hazardous Drinking And Alcohol Poisoning

When Lois was in high school, she had achieved a reputation as a person who studied much of the time and who rarely, if ever, partied with her pals. She seemed nearly obsessed about "shining" academically so that she would be able to find a career that she not only got pleasure from but one that also gave her some security from a financial standpoint.

After Lois completed high school, she applied to and was accepted into an outstanding program in linguistics. Her reasoning for this decision was that this subject would be good training for law school and would not be comparable to the bulk of law school applicants who major in political science at the undergraduate level.

Lois was the type of individual who worked vigorously to finish what she was doing and then would take a break when she could. As it turns out, however, a good number of the things she did between school sessions or during summer breaks did not have much of anything to do with drinking. Needless to say, Lois was anything but a partygoer. Now that her finals for her second year in law school were finished and being delighted with the fact that she had done extremely well on her exams, nonetheless, she wanted to take a respite from school and have some fun.

So Lois and a number of her friends went to a local watering hole where they had a few shots. As the evening advanced, Lois and her buddies continued to drink. In fact, she was having such a wonderful time that she didn't want the night to come to an end.

After drinking about forty minutes when Lois began to slur her speech, talk in a confused manner, and then pass out, in spite of this, her pals instantly knew that they needed to call that they needed to call 911 and ask for emergency assistance because they suspected that Lois was manifesting alcohol poisoning symptoms.

Lois was very aware that she came close to dying from an alcohol overdose and, as a consequence, was gratified to be alive. At the same time, however, she was somewhat depressed knowing that she had almost passed away the previous night. Her Mom and Dad knew how rigorously she worked at college and how little she permitted herself to have any fun. Nevertheless, they also were aware that Lois needed to steer clear of careless and excessive drinking.

As a result, they recommended that down the road, whenever a drinking circumstance develops, that she always drink in moderation. Lois agreed and gave her word to her friends and to her Mom and Dad that she would never again drink in an irresponsible and abusive manner. In her own words, "I never had an inkling that I might become one of the alcohol poisoning statistics in the local town newspaper. I now understand that careless drinking is not for me. I proclaim that this will never happen again."

Fortunately, Lois was not only "book smart" but she also displayed a lot of. In other words, she instantaneously knew that she had made an error in judgment and made up her mind that she would never make the same error again. As a matter of fact, she now knew that she had involved herself in "binge drinking" and that even one instance of this type of careless drinking can result in a fatality.
